Wassily Kandinsky

Yesterday we learned about Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky was an abstract tpainter from Russia. He was a great master of modern art. Last Friday, we painted a collection of concentric circles, similar to Kandinsky's Farbstudie Quadrate.
Next we played with geometric shapes and made abstract art in the style of Kandinsky.

Wyandotte Hosts a Vocabulary Parade based on Debra Frasier's book, Miss Alaineus

Our class joined in on the vocabulary parade. We each chose a word and wore a costume that showed the word. We added the definition of the word to a sign around our neck. It was a lot of fun! Please check out our words and our costumes on our slideshow!

Drop Everything and Read Across America

To celebrate Read Across America students came to school in comfy PJ's and cuddled up with a favorite book or two. Here's what some of us read:

"I read, Totally Spies by Papercutz. It was an amazing book. It was about three girls who ended up in a weird city, because their car broke down. They ended up being captured and taken to a laboratory under a root cellar. The girls were spies and helped other people. It was fun reading in my jammies."

"I read about Grace's Letter to Lincoln. It was a fun book. It was about a little girl named Grace. Grace's family had a chance to vote for Abraham Lincoln or Stephen Douglas. Grace wanted to vote for Abraham Lincoln because she wanted to end slavery. Grace's family voted for Lincoln as the President of the United States. This is an interesting book."
"Today I read a book called, Hippos Go Berserk! by Sandra Boynton. It was about a hippo that was alone and he called his two friends to his house. Then his two friends called more hippos to come. Some hippos snuck into the back and some came to work. They made messes and loud sounds. In the morning, they all went home. The hippo was alone again. It is a cool book."

"I started to read, Junie B. Jones Is a Party Animal by Barbara Park. It was about Junie and her friends. I can't wait to finish the book."

"Today I read a book called, Flash Flood, by Mary White. It was about a family that went camping at a mountain canyon park. Then the family went hiking and the dad forgot his backpack. He sent his children to get his backpack. On their way back, there was a flash flood and the children could not come to their parents. In the end, the water went down and the children returned safely. It is a cool book."

"The book I read was Why Are You Here? by William Neder. It was about five friends who were talking about their trash cans being knocked down. The friends had an idea. They were going to find out who was knocking over their trashcans. In the morning, five friends went to the science teacher and told him about the mystery. At last, the science teacher solved the mystery. The science teacher told them that it was the raccoons. That night, the workers from the city caught all of the raccoons and they took them to a safe place. I hope that you read this book."

"I read, Horrible Harry's Secret, by Susy Kline. It is about a girl named Song who feeds her frog, and a boy named Harry who falls in love with her. He gives a letter to her to see if she likes him. She replied yes and Harry gave her a present. It was fun reading this book."

"Today I read, Cam Jansen The Mystery of the Monster Movie, by David A. Adler. The book was about a woman who stole a reel of film. She said she was bad in the movie. I loved reading the book! You should read it!"

"All of Our Noses Are Here, is a book with many stories. I read one about a girl named Jane who wanted a new donkey, but she didn't have enough money. Jane worked to make more money. Finally Jane got her donkey. Some of the stories in this book were good and some were boring."

"Today I read a book called, Mummies Don't Coach Softball. It was about a cursed ballfield that would not let any team named Bailey Batters win a championship game. I really liked the book. I wish they made more books like this one! I hope you read it."

"I read, All Our Noses Are Here by Alvin Schwariz. This book is not really about all our noses. It's about Jane getting a donkey and more. There are many fun stories in this book. The best story is the one where Mr. Brown was counting if everyone was there."
"We made forts out of blankets while we read today. I read a book called, The Babysitter's Club. It was about a girl named Jessi. She had a wish to have a baby sister and she got one."

"I started reading a book called, Because of Winn Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo. It is about a girl who went to the store to get some groceries, but came back with a dog. When she told her dad that she had a dog and asked to keep the dob, her dad said no. He said that she did not need a dog, but she kept begging and finally he let her keep Winn-Dixie. It is an amazing book!"
"Today our class came to school in PJ's. We had to drop everything and read. I read a book called, In Raven We Trust. It is about a girl who has a crush on a boy named Ricky. She got to meet him at the movie theater with Eddie. I can't wait to finish the book."
